Meet Wesley D. Spencer

Attorney Wesley David Spencer is a criminal defense lawyer with the Law Offices of Jeffrey C. Grass, based in Plano, Texas.

Attorney Spencer has spent over three years working as a felony trial prosecutor with the 47th Judicial District Attorney’s office, based in Amarillo, Texas. 2016 has marked his third full year practicing criminal defense in the region of Denton County, Collin County and Dallas County, Texas.

Attorney Spencer graduated Magna Cum Laude with an impressive 3.9 grade point average from Baylor University in 2005, where he earned his undergraduate degree in history and journalism. For a period of time he was even employed as a sports writer for The Baylor Lariat. His extracurricular activities including playing the trombone in the Courtside Players basketball band and the Golden Wave Marching Band.

Following his graduation, he enrolled in Baylor Law School, earning his degree in 2009, with an emphasis on criminal law. He was also a member of Sigma Tau Gamma.

Currently, Attorney Spencer handles a range of criminal defense cases in the Plano area, including misdemeanors, third-degree felonies, state jail felonies, second-degree felonies and the most serious first-degree felony crimes. He has also maintained a position on the Collin County appointment list to handle misdemeanor juvenile cases, which he has been defending since November 2013. Attorney Wesley David Spencer has also been admitted to practice in the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.

Attorney Wesley David Spencer was also involved in mental health hearings, appearing before the presiding court judge to address mental health commitments.

Attorney Spencer previously served with the 47th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Amarillo, Texas, a position that he held for more than three years. In this role, he served as the grand jury prosecutor for the DA’s office, performing evaluations and preparing for the intake of new felony cases, which were ultimately presented before the grand jury.

Attorney Spencer was also involved in the drug court program, serving as the representative for the Potter County District Attorney’s Office.

In addition to working in the drug courts, he spent time in the 108th District Court, evaluating, preparing and trying felony cases. From participating in court hearings, to performing witness and victim interviews and presenting cases before grand juries, his experience spans many different facets of the legal system.

While in law school, Attorney Spencer spent a year with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office, assisting in the Family Justice Division and the Crimes Against Children Division.

“I performed a range of different tasks with the Crimes Against Children Division, like participating in victim interviews and sorting through evidence, which enabled me to gain an understanding of how the Family Justice and Crimes Against Children Divisions work together to ensure protection and justice for children,” he explained.

During his time with the Family Justice Division, he tended to the “preparation and organization of discovery in CPS cases, I drafted several motions and I reviewed cases to assist the assigned prosecutor in anticipation of hearings and trials.”

When he’s not formulating defense strategies and representing his clients in the courtroom, Wesley can be found spending time with his wife and their two-year-old daughter. He’s also an avid sports fan and firearms enthusiast. He loves cheering on his favorite teams from Dallas and Kansas City, in addition to watching Formula 1 racing.
